"Find A Need. Fill the Void."
The Gosder Cherilus Foundation was founded in September of 2009 by native Haitian and NFL Offensive Tackle Gosder Cherilus. It's primary goal is improving the lives of underserved and underprivileged populations in the United States and Haiti. The foundation's purpose is based on the assertion, "Find A Need. Fill the Void." Like an offensive linemen protecting his quarterback, the foundation dedicates itself to seeking out populations in need and providing much needed resources, funds, and services.
Since its creation the foundation has engaged in many efforts to fufill its mission. Gosder’s first project took place in November 2009. Days before the Detriot Lion’s Thanksgiving game, he personally provided and delivered Thanksgiving dinner to four underprivileged Detroit households. Over 40 people enjoyed the dinner. Later in 2010, and in response to the earthquake which devastated his home country of Haiti, Cherilus helped lead a joint relief effort (with Haiti Outreach Mission) to the country. He assembled a team of doctors, nurses, as well as medical supplies and equipment. The team landed in the country on January 23. They delivered four babies, performed multiple life-saving operations, and obtained American refugee status for a badly injured Haitian boy.
Our current ongoing projects include an annual free summer youth football camp held in Somerville, MA as well as initial funding for the Somerville Youth Football and Cheer Program.
Gosder's once one-man community service effort has expanded to a modest network of individuals with diverse skill sets. It has conducted operations in several countries and has partnered with established leaders in service.
In 2014, the NFLPA acknowledged Gosder for his continued efforts throughout the community by presenting him with its Community Service Coin.
